Latest Contemporary Pysanky
Although I was not juried into the 50-50 IV Show, I continue on my exploration with Pysanky eggs. Here are some of my latest experiments.
| Acid Wash Egg |
I used dark dyes with a wax resist, then bathed the egg in a vinegar solution that allowed the color on the unwaxed areas to be released. It is wiped, then the remaining wax is melted off giving this result. It reminds me of scrimshaw.
| Cabbage Patch Egg |
I let the raised calcium dimples on this egg inspire the design, covering the yellow bumps with wax as a first step. The reminded me of a constellation of stars, and the design evolved.

Eggs, Necklaces and Taxes
I just finished this necklace for my niece in colors to suit her. I call it "Paint it Black".
I've also been working on taxes, but for fun I'm doing Pysanka Eggs. I will produce eggs to sell as Christmas ornaments at the Open House at the Sanchez Art Center later in the year, so keep checking in for designs you might like.

THE "HEADS" SHOW
There are so many heads to consider: dead heads of the Grateful or flower types, talking heads, heads of state, garlic, lettuce, celery, hair and nails. There are black heads, heads of households, heads of Easter Island. I chose to do a head of my sweet, and expressive gray kitty-girl, Smokey...ala Jefferson Airplane Feed Your Head?
